Susan Long obituary
Sue Marie Long, age 74, of Lake City, Minn. passed peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Lake City Care Center after a short second battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.
Sue was born on June 22, 1950, in Lake City, Minn. to LaVern and Donna (Buck) Herron.
She attended and graduated from Lake City High School, class of 1968. She married Ken Long Jr. and they later divorced. Sue moved with her three children to Burnsville and then Bloomington, Minn. During this time, she lovingly added two young children into her family unit and raised them as her own. Upon raising her children, she returned to Lake City to help care for her mom.
Over her lifetime Sue worked many jobs, her favorites were retail and bartending where she met many people and made many friends.
Sue was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Lake City VFW Auxiliary Post #8729.
Sue loved music, dancing, sunshine, beaches and water, be it a lake or ocean, spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Sue will be deeply missed by her family and friends and anyone lucky enough to know her.
She will be remembered for her huge caring heart and her passion to help anyone in need.
Sue is survived by her children, Travis Long of Cottage Grove, Minn., Gia Long of Bloomington, Minn., Jamel Long of St. Paul, Minn., Krystal Jimerson of Eagan, Minn.; grandchildren Jamarea “Jay” Jimerson, Aneja Jimerson, Kavarion “Duce” Jimerson, Josiah Long, Nova Bell, Kairo Young; brother Tom (Jackie) Herron of New Brighton, Minn., sister Janet (Jim) Schmidt of Lake City Minn.; sister-in-law Jean (Jim) Lee of St. Charles, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many special relatives and friends.
Sue was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tomi Marie Eckoff, parents, grandparents, infant sister, brother Daniel C. Herron and an infant nephew, numerous very special friends and family members.
Per Sue’s wishes there will be no services. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Lake City VFW. A private burial will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lake City Food Shelf or the American Cancer Society.
