Thomas Arendt obituary
Thomas “Tom” Henry Arendt of Edina, passed away on November 26, 2022, at the age of 75.
Tom was born April 28, 1947, in Red Wing to Lawrence and Helen (Diercks) Arendt. His family lived in the Bellechester area until moving to New Hampton, Iowa when he was four. He grew up and attended school in New Hampton until his family moved back to Bellechester in 1964. Tom attended Goodhue High School his senior year, graduating in 1965. He received his associate degree from Rochester Junior College in 1967, graduating with honors. He served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970, as a Military Policeman and mail clerk stationed in Frankford, Germany and was Honorably Discharged in November 1970. He attended the University of Minnesota and attained a Degree in Sociology with a minor in English in March 1972.
Tom was employed for 38 years by the State of Minnesota in supervision and managerial positions, working at numerous Employment and Economic Development offices in the metro area and Moorhead.
Tom enjoyed history, was an avid reader and had amassed a large collection of non-fictional books, showing a wide variety of interest. He also enjoyed aviation and traveling. Tom had a very generous nature.
He is survived by a sister, Rosemary Sheumaker, Garland Texas; a brother Nick (Lynda) Arendt, Lake City; 10 nephews and 10 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil (Rita) and Gerald (Elsie); and a brother-in-law, Richard Sheumaker.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Matthew Fasnacht officiant. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Doctors Without Borders or a favorite charity.
