Verner Harrington Obituary
Verner J. “Bud” Harrington, 95, of Austin, Minn., passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 at his apartment in Lake City.
Verner was born Dec. 7, 1923 in Red Rock Township, Minn., to Verner and Iva (Noffsinger) Harrington. On Oct. 5, 1942, he entered the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 8, 1946. On March 4, 1950, Verner was united in marriage to Faye Nelson in Austin. Together the couple had five children. In 1951, he started his career at Hormel Foods and retired in 1982. Verner was a member of the American Legion Post 91 and enjoyed walking, fishing, and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Harrington; children, Dan (Molly) Harrington of Edina, Minn., Duane (Sherrie) Harrington of Burnsville, Minn., Dawn (Mike) Nelson of Lake City and Dean (Lynda) Harrington of Cottage Grove, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Viola O’Conner and Gladys Hertle of Austin, Minn.; and sister-in-law, Merle Harrington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verner and Iva Harrington; daughter, Diane Bawek in 2014; and five brothers and one sister.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at First United Methodist Church in Austin with Pastor Donna Dempewolf officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Lansing Cemetery. Military honors are American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Memorials can be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
