Virginia Oelkers Obituary

A memorial service for Virginia “Ginny” Oelkers will be Monday, May 20, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating.
    Virginia Florence Oelkers, 79, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester.
    She was born to Moritz and Dorothy (Rosch) Anding in Rochester.  In her childhood, she lived and schooled in the Hyde Park Township, attended the Hyde Park country school, and then attended Zumbro Falls School.  She graduated from Wabasha High School in 1957 and went to work at Methodist Worrall Hospital.
    Ginny married Darrell Oelkers Dec. 5, 1959 at Lincoln Trinity Church.  They lived in Zumbro Falls, Minneapolis, Byron and then returned to Zumbro Falls in 1978.  She was a very active person.  For example, Ginny was a Cub Scout leader for three years, a past Zumbro Falls Lioness charter member, was instrumental in writing the Zumbro Falls History Book, took great interest in family history and ancestry and worked many years as an auction clerk.
    Virginia is survived by her husband, Darrell; her sons, Dana (Sherry) and Dirk (Janelle) Oelkers of Zumbro Falls; daughter, Dodie (Jim) Jostock of Millville; daughter-in-law, Darla Oelkers of Lake City; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Shirley (David) Kennebeck of Lake City, Rosemary (Rod) Jeche of Rochester and Debbie (Jerry) Meyer of Ramsey, Minn.  She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Daniel, granddaughter, Demitria, brother, Moritz “Butch” and sister-in-law, Joan Anding.
    Friends and family may visit from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
