Walter Rahrmann Obituary

The memorial service for Walter J. Rahrmann will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, with Deacon David Dose officiating.  Friends and family may visit starting at noon on Tuesday at the church until the time of service.
    Walter John Rahrmann passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.  
    He was born July 29, 1933 in Plainview to George and Bernice (Hollihan) Rahrmann.  He attended school in Plainview.  On June 29, 1963 he married Carol Lanzel at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha.  He built the couple’s home on the back waters of the Mississippi on Sand Prairie.
    Walter was a union carpenter.  Worked for Orr’s Construction in Rochester, and then WAK in Plainview.  Upon his retirement from construction, he worked for the Wabasha/Kellogg School District.  He enjoyed helping others. In his later years he spent his time visiting his wife at the care center.  
    Walter is survived by his wife, Carol Rahrmann of Lake City and formerly of Wabasha, three daughters, Jill (Lance) Cordes of Byron, Lisa (Jason Carr) Rahrmann, and Annie (Darren) Thompson, both of Rochester; six grandchildren, Alyssa Cordes, Josilyn Cordes, Zachery Carr, Maddie Thompson, Taylor Thompson and Reece Thompson; his sister, Mary Lou (Buzz) Barnett of St. Paul; and sister-in-law, Bea Rahrmann of Plainview.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Donald and Michael.
    Memorials are preferred to the “Walter Rahrmann Scholarship Fund” at First State Bank in Wabasha.  The scholarship will go to a Wabasha/Kellogg High School student going into carpentry, construction, or building maintenance.

    A reception will follow the service at the Lake City Care Center.
