Warren Peterson Obituary

Warren Sheldon ‘Shelly’ Peterson, 85, of Lake City, died Friday, April 20, 2018.
Warren was born on Sept. 25, 1932 to Warren Reith and Allene Esther (Munger) Peterson. He married Mildred Caroline Fritze, a Northwestern Bell operator in 1961 in Owatonna, Minn. He was a graduate of Hamline University and the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in mortuary science. He proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany (Frankfurt, Munich, Nuremberg), from 1954 to 1956.
Shelly retired in 1996 after 40 years with Peterson-Sheehan Company, a multi-generation family retail business, when the mortuary business was sold to what is today the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel.
Through his life, Shelly was active in the Lake City community as a member of:  First Lutheran Church, Lake City State Bank board, Lake City Fire Department (35 years, 30 years as treasurer), served as Lake City Chamber of Commerce president in 1961, Kiwanis, Lions, Legion/VFW Honor Guard, Masonic Lodge (past master), Rochester Scottish Rite and The Zuhrah Temple of the Shrine in Minneapolis, Lake City Cemetery Board, and the Minnesota and Southeast Minnesota Funeral Directors Associations. He truly appreciated his life and service as part of the community of Lake City.
He treasured his time at Central Point and with his grandchildren. Shelly was known for his gentle and easy going nature, his passion for his time in Germany and the Minnesota Vikings. He truly loved Lake City, his state, his church, and his family.             His legacy lives on through his children, Jane Moechnig of Woodbury, Brad (Sue) of Deerwood, Minn. and Mark (Danita) of St. Paul; eight grandchildren; brother, Allan (Lois) of Edina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and nephew Danny.
A celebration of his life service is planned for this summer in Lake City. Details to be announced. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, Lake City Tiger Marching Band, or a charity of your choice.
