Borner: Sesquicentennial preparations have begun

I am Lois Borner and I am coming before you with what is starting out as a citizen initiative. Thank you for allowing me to speak. This past weekend was 163 weeks until Water Ski Days Weekend in 2022. That year marks both the 100th anniversary of the invention of water skiing as well as the 150th or sesquicentennial of the incorporation of Lake City, which occurred on Feb. 26 that year.

We’re about at the 150-week count-down to those events. Preliminary discussions have been about combining the two celebrations, keeping the weekend for Water Ski Days and either the week before or after for the culmination of a year of Sesquicentennial events which will begin with the 50th Waterski Days Celebration in 2021.
