Assistance available for paying heat and electric bills

Three Rivers Community Action is urging people worried about paying for heat and electric bills to apply for Energy Assistance (EAP).

Energy Assistance is a federal program to help pay heating and electricity bills. Homeowners may also be eligible for a free heating system repair or replacement.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) now only requires proof of one month’s income. The deadline for households to apply for EAP benefits has been extended to July 1.

People can contact Three Rivers Community Action to have an application mailed to them or go to www.threeriverscap.org to download an application. Three Rivers administers the program in Goodhue, Olmsted, Rice and Wabasha Counties.

Three Rivers’ offices are currently closed to the public, but people who have questions about how to apply are urged to call. Staff is available to help.
Applications can be submitted by email, fax, mail or can be dropped off in Three Rivers’ Rochester, Zumbrota, or Faribault office drop box. 507-316-0610 or toll free 1-800-277-8418; FAX 507-258-5501; and energyassistance@threeriverscap.org.
