Lake Hits announces special Memorial Day broadcast

Area residents will have the option to listen to a local Memorial Day program on the radio.

KLCH Radio (Lake Hits 95) will present a Memorial Day broadcast at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day (May 25) featuring prayers, a keynote address and music. B. Wayne Quist will present the keynote address.

Program sponsors are the Lake City American Legion Post and Auxiliary, Lake City VFW Post and Auxiliary, Karen England Law Office, Gartner Law Office, Tom Heffernan Ford, Lake City Federal Bank, Mahn Family Funeral Home, and Schleicher Funeral Homes.

Last week, The Graphic reported that the annual Lake City Memorial Day program has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While such a decision may have seemed premature, organizing committee member Bruce Carlstrom explained that the hour-long program is preceded by hours of practice by program participants. The program this year was to include the high school band and choir, a community choir and others.

“Not knowing if we would be able to safely gather to practice and present the program, the only logical solution was to postpone,” Carlstrom said.

The planning committee hopes to present the program in conjunction with Veterans Day in November.
