Longtime food shelf directors pass away

A husband-and-wife duo that for decades operated the Lake City Food Shelf have died.

Donald Dahling, 93, passed away on Aug. 22. Evlyn Dahling, 92, died two days later.

The Dahlings graduated from Lincoln High School together in 1943, whereupon Don immediately entered the armed forces fighting in World War II. He was a member of the 31st Infantry in the South Pacific.

Evie worked at the Lake City Hospital for 32 years, 28 of them as director of nurses.

She was an inspiration to at least one of her colleagues there.
