New phase for very old tree
It’s the end for a burr oak tree at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) field office in Lake City.
The tree that has stood there since before the DNR built the building – and maybe since before the city was founded – contracted oak wilt in recent years.
An attempt at treatment failed, and this year the decision was made to chop the tree down after dead branches began falling from its canopy, according to Mark Miller, a field forester based in Lake City.
