Outreach efforts target growing Hispanic population

Two speakers detailed efforts to reach out to the Lake City-area Hispanic community last Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Katie Yoder is an AmeriCorps VISTA member working with the Lake City Economic Development Authority (EDA) on Hispanic community outreach.

AmeriCorps is the domestic version of the Peace Corps, she said. And VISTA (which stands for Volunteers in Service to America) is charged with helping to develop local capacity to alleviate poverty.
