Pray today
The first Thursday in May is the annual observance of the National Day of Prayer. This day has been set aside to pray for our country and our leaders. In the past several years, we in Lake City have gathered together in Patton Park to pray over our national, state, and local elected leaders and judges.
This year is different. We will not be gathering together to pray this year; not because we no longer need prayer, but because of COVID-19.
Some have said that we could still gather in a safe way so we could pray. That is true, but is it worth the risk or the distraction?
We can however still pray together! We do not have to be in the same park to pray for our country; we do not need to see each other to be connected in prayer; and we do not need to hear each other for God to hear our prayer!
This Thursday, will you please pray? Yes, pray of our leaders for every one of them needs God’s wisdom to lead in these uncertain times; but also pray for all of those who call the nation home. Pray for the health care workers who are on the front lines. Pray for our teachers who struggle to find new ways to teach; administrators who much find new way to lead; and students who must find new ways to learn. Pray for those who are overworked; and pray for those who have no work. Pray for those who are sick. Pray for those who are lonely. Pray for those who are afraid and pray for those who are angry. Pray for those whose demons are attacking when they are weak. Please also pray for a cure; for life to return to normal; and for hope found in Jesus Christ.
