Goodhue County Commissioner battles leukemia

Ron Allen’s latest battle is with cancer.

The Goodhue County commissioner and retired U.S. Army veteran has leukemia, County Administrator Scott Arneson said Tuesday in a news statement.

Allen will be getting treatment over the next few weeks at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis.

“They are very proactive,” Allen said. “Could be related to the toxic burn pits from Afghanistan and Iraq. I hope to be at the July 2 board meeting — medical team are more hopeful now.”
