With students at home, lots happening at school

From the outside, Lincoln High School looks quiet. Students are doing distance learning at least until May during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Inside the building, however, the school district is using this break to complete several updates to the building.

A new secured entrance, similar to the one at Bluff View Elementary School, is being added at the Lincoln High School office entrance. The cost is about $80,000.

Bid opening for a project to replace restrooms at a cost of up to $250,000 in the oldest wing of the building will be April 28.

Carpet in the Lincoln High School media center was missing during the April 20 School Board meeting. It’s being replaced.

The gymnasium echoed with the sound of a power sander Tuesday as two decades worth of gym floor finish was removed from the hardwood floor so it can be repainted.

Upstairs Doug Vaith and Adam Schimbeno from the district activities office are in the process of mounting plaques won by Tiger competitors over the years.

Facilities manager Jim Klennert said his staff is taking advantage of the lull by making swift progress on projects around the building.

Much of this work is expected to be finished in time for students to return to the building in May, though that remains very much in doubt.
