Supt.: Distance learning going well so far

Distance learning began Monday for students at Lincoln High School and Bluff View Elementary School.

Classes met, albeit online, for the first time since March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Gov. Tim Walz gave schools eight school days to develop a plan to offer distance learning for an indefinite period of time beginning March 30.

Supt. Erick Enger said Tuesday that things have been going well, considering the unprecedented challenges staff faced to get it up and running.

There were some technical problems early, however. Bluff View was without phone service part of Monday.

Two online services used heavily by the school district, Schoology and SeeSaw, also had problems initially, possibly due to the load of so many schools using them for distance learning at the same time, Enger said.

The district continues to distribute about 400 packages of food for students each day from Door 10 at Lincoln High School. The packages include a lunch for that day and a breakfast for the following morning.
