Golf fundraiser canceled, funding needs remain

The Great River Homes annual benefit golf tournament has been canceled due to COVID-19.

The 29th annual event was to be held on Friday, June 5, at Lake Pepin Golf.

“By canceling the 2020 golf tournament, Great River Homes is hopeful it is doing its part to help keep the community safe,” Great River Homes said in a news release.

Great River Homes, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides residential and in-home support services to 67 children and adults with disabilities. All proceeds of the tournament benefit people with disabilities in Wabasha County. Canceling the Great River Homes, Inc. Annual Golf Tournament Benefit does not indicate that support is not needed.

Great River Homes, like many other businesses and organizations, has endured additional unpredicted expenses.

For example, over the last 10 weeks , due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Great River Homes has spent several thousand dollars securing personal protective equipment (PPE) and it still has more PPE to secure.

“Great River Homes is so very thankful for the generous donations and support we have received from our community: gifts of homemade cloth masks, games, indoor and outdoor activities, cards in the mail, meals, treats, cheerful greeting messages, and so much more. Keeping those we provide supports to as well as employ in your thoughts is always appreciated,” the non-profit said.
