Did you know Lake City can lay claim to being the source of the first Honeycrisp apples to hit grocery stores when they were new to the market in 1996? Years earlier, before it even had a name, Dennis Courtier, Lake City native and owner of Courtier’s Pepin Heights Orchard got a taste of the crispy sweet treat at the University of Minnesota research orchard. He was always looking for great new varieties and decided to go all in on Honeycrisp.
