My favorite reading material is novels set in English villages where the characters walk or pedal to the High Street to do their weekly marketing. They might stop at the fishmongers or the chemist or perhaps the tobacconist to get the daily paper. The interactions are always ordinary, familiar and perhaps a bit gossipy. News of friends and neighbors is exchanged along with commercial transactions.
