DNR proposes designating Wells Creek a trout stream

On Aug. 13, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced a proposal to change the trout stream designations on about 125 miles of trout waters in 11 counties, including Wells Creek near Lake City.

Wells Creek is among the streams and lakes that would be designated as trout streams under the proposal. Others would be removed because they are unable to support trout.

Trout streams and lakes get certain environmental protections and become eligible for trout habitat restoration projects.
