A large stone with a bronze plaque on it sets quietly off South Lakeshore Drive on a little triangle of property near its intersection with Lakewood Avenue and High Street.
The monument was installed in 1921 by the DAR. Lake City had a local chapter then. It honors the soldiers who fought in three wars, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War and World War I.
Most people don’t pay too much attention to the monument, but Jerry and Austra Hultstrand do.
