Permitting becomes a hurdle for obstacle course, event center

The new owners of the Steeplechase Ski Resort have major plans for the 172-acre site near Mazeppa, but they need to have a viable conditional use permit (CUP) in order to operate as an event center.

This matter was discussed with Justin Steck, new owner of the Steeplechase Ski Hill, during the Aug. 16 meeting of the Wabasha County Board of Commissioners.  Cheryl Key was absent.  County Administrator Michael Plante was present, along with Wabasha County Attorney Karrie Kelly.
