Safe Driving Class (lawsuit) dismissed

A class action lawsuit seeking to recover fees paid to attend a Wabasha County safe driving class has been dismissed.

The county operated the class from 2003 until a 2014 court ruling that the class violated state law.

It allowed people apprehended for minor traffic offenses to avoid a ticket by paying to attend a safe driving class offered by the county.

Money from the class was used to purchase vehicles for the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office and to fund other law enforcement-related expenses like the county drug court.
