A car sank into Lake Pepin the evening of Wednesday, March 21. There were no injuries.

Douglas Melbye of Plum City, Wis., drove onto the ice at the Maiden Rock access, according to the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office.

After determining the ice was about 20 inches deep, he drove about 100 yards farther before the front of his vehicle dropped through the ice. The ice had thinned to four-to-six inches.
