Group walk takes a stroll through the former Jewell Nursery, now ‘The Jewel’

The “Walking Lake Pepin” (WLP) weekly walk took the group through The Jewel last Wednesday evening.
Prior to the walk, the group was asked what “The Jewel” is?  Some newcomers to the area thought it was a golf course and a housing development. They were unaware that The Jewel  was a nursery long before the golfers showed up.   
Founded in 1868 by Phineas Jewell and Joseph Underwood, Jewell Nurseries started with 10 acres and grew to be 1,500 acres. Jewell Nurseries operated for more than 125 years.
