Mayo orthopedic specialist disciplined

A Mayo Clinic Health System orthopedic specialist has agreed to obtain more training after the state Board of Medical Practice found that he had “(e)ngaged in conduct that departs from or fails to conform to the minimal standards of acceptable and prevailing medical practice.”

Dr. Michael Johnson is based in Red Wing and sometimes sees patients from Lake City.

The reprimand from the board stems from an incident in 2017 where a patient who received a total knee replacement from Johnson developed complications that required the affected leg to be amputated above the knee.
