Adelbert "Bert" Luhman Obituary

The funeral service for Adelbert “Bert” Luhman will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 14, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Dr. Scott T. Fiege officiating.  Burial will be in the Millville Cemetery in Millville, with Military Rites by the Millville American Legion Post 579.
    Mr. Luhman, 82, of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus in Rochester.
    Adelbert Alfred Luhman was born March 15, 1933 on a farm in Victor Township, Wright County, near Howard Lake, Minn. to Alfred and Clara (Klammer) Luhman.  He attended country school both north and south of Howard Lake and entered St. James Parochial School in the third grade and graduated from the Howard Lake High School in 1951.  Bert served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as a radar maintenance technician during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. On Aug. 12, 1976 he married Geraldine Wilde Binder at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
    Bert farmed in the Howard Lake area for over 30 years.  He served on the church council of St. James and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.  He was president of the Buffalo branch of Production Credit Association (PCA), president of Minnesota Federation of PCA’s, and served as chairman of the Howard Lake-Waverly School System for four years.  After retiring from farming in 1987 Bert and Geri moved to Lake City and wintered in Arizona for 18 years.  Bert was a member and served on the church council of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City.
    Bert is survived by his wife Geri Luhman; two daughters, Julie (Kym) Clark, and Debra (Bruce) Salonek; one daughter-in-law, Joleen Luhman; one step-daughter, Sheila Greenfield (Dennis Weber); three step-sons, Terry (Jeannie) Binder, Randy Binder, and Mark (Karla) Binder; 12 grandchildren; nine  great-grandchildren; one sister, LaVerne Custer; one brother, Arvid (Violet) Luhman; two brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Dorothy) Wilde and Leonard Wilde; and three sisters-in-law, Shirley (Bob) Overton, Mary Wilde and Beverly Luhman.  Bert was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Brian, one sister three brothers, two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
    Friends and family may visit from 2 pm. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City with a Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
