Amelia Schafer Obituary

The memorial service for Amelia Schafer was Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the United Methodist Church in Lake City with Pastor Phil Schmidt officiating.  Burial was in the Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.
    Mrs. Schafer, 70, of Lake City, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus in Rochester, with her family by her side.
    Amelia Anna Burfeind was born April 5, 1945 in Lake City to Edward and Frances (Lichtblau) Burfeind, Sr.   She grew up and lived her entire lifetime in Lake City.  Amelia attended St. John’s Lutheran School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963.  On June 1, 2002 she married Duane Schafer in Lake City.
    Amelia was employed for many years at Zero King, and then at Wild Wings in Lake City.  She enjoyed spending time in her gardens, reading, and going dancing.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lake City and the Lake City VFW Auxiliary.
    Amelia is survived by her loving husband, Duane Schafer of Lake City; three step-daughters, Mary Coyle of Lake City, Susie (Kevin) Smith of Hudson, Wis. and Lori (Tim) Anderson of Lake City; two step-sons, Richard (Gwen) Schafer of Lake City and Michael (Debbie) Schafer of Wabasha; 11 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen M. “Kathy” Burfeind of Lake City; and five brothers, John Burfeind of Lake City, James (Helen) Burfeind of Wabasha, Harold (Barbara) Burfeind of Lake City, Frederick (Cheryl) Burfeind of Grand Rapids, Minn. and Ed (Judy) Burfeind of Lake City.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dallas and Elward, and one sister, Bertha.
