Barbara Kosec Obituary

Barbara Kosec, 90, died on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.
    Family and friends will gather at a Celebration of her Life from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 13 concluding with a 3 p.m. Prayer Service, all at Iles Grandview Park Chapel in Des Moines.
    Barbara Ruth Kosec was born on June 12, 1929 in Baltimore, M.D. to Elston and Ruth (Wallis) Rawson and grew up in Lake City. She met her husband, Jim Kosec, while in nursing school. They married on Oct. 17, 1951. The family followed Jim’s culinary career to many different communities including Red Wing, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Aurora, Colo. and Strongsville, Ohio.
    Barbara worked as a nurse at various nursing homes and Mercy Medical Center. She was skilled in knitting and crossstitch. She enjoyed watching “The Young and the Restless” and sports, especially the Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns. She will be remembered as being hard working and honest in sharing her opinions, without saying anything bad about anyone.
    Those left to cherish Barbara’s memory include six children, Nancy (Howard) Evans of Des Moines, Janet Barker of Lansing, Mich., Lynn Sherwood (Dave) Lavender of Des Moines, Laurie (John) Cowell of Des Moines, Michael (Judy) Kosec of Rifle, Colo. and Susan Kosec of Grand Junction, Colo.; niece, Kim (Bob) Solheid of Lake City; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other Kosec family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Kosec; and sister, Donna Brown.
