Cecelia Giesler Obituary

The funeral mass for Cecelia M. Giesler will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, with Fr. John Wilmot officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City.
    Cecelia Margaret Giesler, 101, of Wabasha and formerly of Lake City, passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home in Wabasha.  
    She was born on a farm near Theilman on April 14, 1917 to Margaret (Baker) and John Schwirtz.  She went to country school through the eighth grade.  On Oct. 23, 1945 she married Benedict Giesler at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Theilman.
    The Giesler’s moved to a farm near Altura for a short time after their marriage, and then moved back to the Theilman area to farm.  Benedict worked for Funk Construction and Alley Construction.  In 1960 they moved to Lake City.  Cecelia took in sewing and worked at the Anchor Inn and in the kitchen at Lincoln High School, as well as at the Lake City Hospital. She belonged to many different card clubs and volunteered at the Lake City Nursing Home.
    Cecelia belonged St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Society and Mission Group, she was also a former member of St. Joseph’s Altar Guild.  Cecelia sewed a lot of quilts, enjoyed needlework, and volunteered at many funerals and weddings.
    Cecelia is survived by many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Benedict on July 29, 1982, daughter, Sharon Freese, brothers, Lester and Kenneth Schwirtz, and sisters, Lorraine Eggenberger and Anita Eversman.
    Friends and family may visit from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
