Charles "Pat" Wise obituary

Charles Patrick “Pat” Wise, 81, passed away on Dec. 6, 2020 at the Lake City Care Center.
Pat was born on Aug. 23, 1939 to George & Mary (McCarthy) Wise in Lake City, Minn. He married Sandra Swenson on Feb. 27, 1965 at Immaculate Conception Church in Faribault, Minn. Pat grew up in Lake City and attended Mary E. McCahill Institute through eighth grade. He then attended Lincoln High School and graduated in 1957. He played football and baseball and was a member of the 1955 undefeated Tiger football team winning the HVL Conference title and ending their season by defeating Hutchinson 20-0. In 2017, the 1955 football team was inducted into the Lake City High School Hall of Fame. His senior year he was captain of the Tiger’s baseball team.
Pat then attended St. Thomas University for one year and then transferred to Winona State College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962. Upon graduation Pat was employed by the phone company and then McKesson-Robbins Drug Company. In 1967, he returned to Lake City taking over the family business, Wise Ace Hardware which he owned and operated for 39 years. During his time in Lake City, he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Chamber of Commerce, the Sportsman’s Club and Jaycees, and a board member of Lake City Federal. He was a member of the Lake City Fire Department for 30 years, serving from 1968 to 1998.
He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and playing golf where he had three holes-in-one. Pat trained dogs competing in field trials and winning several championships. He enjoyed his dogs, taking numerous hunting trips to parts of North and South Dakota and Nebraska.
Pat is survived by his wife, Sandy; his daughter, Lynn Schmidt (Paul Thompson) of Lake City; two sons, Christopher Wise of Lake City, and Anthony Wise of Woodbury, Minn.; grandchildren, Mary (Ryan) Moulzolf of Rochester, Minn., Jennifer (Alex) Lundell of Rochester, Minn., Andrew Schmidt of Lake City, Kate and Claire Wise of Woodbury, Minn; two brothers, Joe Wise of Prior Lake, Minn., Dick (Darliss) Wise of Hastings, Minn.; aunt, Katherine Redmond of Lake City; two sisters-in-law, Laurie Hildebrandt (Bill) of Woodland, Calif.; Liz Elfstrand of Minneapolis, Minn.; nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Wise; in-laws Arnold and Elaine Swenson; sister-in-law, Glenda Wise; brother-in-law Robert Swenson; niece Stacy Wise Egan.
A private Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 11 a.m. with Father Matt Fasnacht officiating. This will be Live Streamed on Mahn Family Funeral Homes Facebook page. A walk-through visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson - Peterson Chapel. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
