Chester Sprague Obituary

Chester L. (Pete) Sprague, son of Evelyn and Chester Sprague of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at his home in Cambridge, Mass., after enduring over 45 years of progressing Parkinson’s disease.
    Chester also served in the United States Army. He retired as associate professor of architecture at MIT in 1987 but continued as emeritus professor. In addition to his private architectural practice, he was involved with numerous housing and school designing for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He was an advocate for including the community’s culture in the design of its private and public buildings.
    Chester L. was known for his kindness, wit and intellect.  He cherished his Truro residence and was involved in the Truro Land Conservation stewardship.
    A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Cemetery  in Lake City on Friday, Sept. 18 and a gathering following at Patton Park at noon. Chester’s ashes were interred at the Lakewood Cemetery on July 25.
    Chester L. is survived by a sister, Mary E., and cousin Barbara. Surviving nieces include, Mary Patricia Heser, Laurianne Nichols (Ken), Robyn Hunter (Barry) and, Holly O’Neill. Surviving grandnieces are Jessica and Lindsey (Chris) and grandnephew, Tobin (Heidi). Also surviving is a great-grandniece, Kailey.
    In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Minnesota Land Trust.
