Dorothy Bowers

Dorothy Virginia Bowers (Ginnie), 100, of Lake City, died on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the Red Wing Healthcare Community.
    She was born July 25, 1914 in Schenectady, N.Y., to Leonard M. Moyer and Clara Rhodes Moyer.  The family moved to Portland, Ore. in 1919.  She attended Oregon State University where she was an active member of Sigma Kappa sorority.  She worked as a lab and x-ray technician in Portland and Long View, Wash.
    Ginnie met Dr. Robert Bowers of Lake City during World War II.  They were married in May 1943 in Lake City and lived in Santa Barbara, Calif. until the end of the war.  After the war they returned to Lake City where Dr. Bowers rejoined his father’s medical practice.  Both Robert and Virginia enjoyed traveling throughout the world and made many long lasting friendships during their journeys.
    She is survived by children, David (Suzanne) Bowers, Michael (Lupe) Bowers, and Kristi (Bruce) Cooper; and grandchildren, Rachel Bowers, Annika Bowers, Robert Bowers, Sean Bowers, Rebecca Bowers, and Jonathan Cooper.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Bowers; grandson, Matthew Cooper; and her siblings, Marion Henriksen, Jeanne Knowlton, and Leonard R. Moyer.
    A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be Saturday, July 25, 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Lake City with the Rev. David Badgley officiating. Visitation will be Friday, July 24, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel - Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City. Online condolences may be placed at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
