Elizabeth "Betty" Geppert Obituary
Elizabeth Rachel “Betty” Geppert, 87, of Lake City, passed away Dec. 19, 2015 at United Hospital in St. Paul.
She was born on March 23, 1928 in Pipestone to Charles and Rachel (Davidson) Hickman. She grew up there and graduated from Jasper High School in 1946. Betty went on to receive her nursing degree from the Hamline-Asbury School of Nursing. She married Wayne Geppert on Feb. 17, 1952 at the Wabasha Congregational Church. They farmed in the Mount Pleasant Township area for many years. Betty also worked as a nurse in the Lake City and Wabasha hospitals. When they moved to Lake City in 1994, she worked as a home health aide in Red Wing. Wayne died Nov. 5, 2014. Betty was a member of First Congregational Church in Lake City. She taught Sunday school there for many years. She loved to read her Bible, play the piano, and most of all, spend time with her family.
Betty is survived by her son, Steve (Rebecca) Geppert of St. Paul; daughter, Joni Geppert of White Bear Lake; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Nick (Martha) Hickman of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-in-law, Myrtle Hickman of Pierre, S.D.; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; son, Gary Geppert; parents; and daughter-in-law, Kay Geppert.
Funeral service was Wednesday, Dec. 23, 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Lake City with Rev. David Badgley officiating. Burial followed at Lakewood Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
