Elsie Hales Obituary

Elsie Hales, 98, of Lake City, formerly of Minnetonka, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Accra High Street House Assisted Living.
    She was born Jan. 25, 1920 in Minneapolis to Anders and Marie (Ljøkelsøy) Carlson. She grew up in Minneapolis where she attended business school. On July 12, 1946 she married Frederick William Hales. Together the couple made their home in Minnetonka and raised two daughters. Frederick passed away in 2007. Elsie worked in the office of Richardson Company in Minneapolis for 25 years. She was a member of Mizpah Congregational Church in Hopkins, the Sons of Norway, the Women’s Club and was an avid bridge player. She loved to entertain family and friends in her home or at her cottage on Big Island on Lake Minnetonka. She also enjoyed traveling the world. In 2013 she moved to Lake City to be closer to her daughter.
    She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Russ) Malcomson of Lake City; six grandchildren, Holly Okland of Eden Prairie, Minn., Crystal Boe of Lake City, Sterling Malcomson of Seattle, Wash. Ryan Malcomson of Ames, Iowa, Katie Crystal and Lisa Crystal of Chicago, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Eden, Henry, Charlie and Jack Frederick Boe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Anne Crystal; sister, Aina Saari; and her parents.
    Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at the First Congregational Church in Lake City with Rev. David Badgley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 3, at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
