Eugene Solheid Obituary

The funeral service for Eugene C. Solheid was Sunday, Feb. 28, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Fr. Joseph Pete officiating.  Burial followed the service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City with Military Rites by the Lake City American Legion Post 110 and Lake City VFW Post 8729.
    Mr. Solheid, 90, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake City Care Center.
    Eugene Charles Solheid was born May 24, 1925 in St. Benedict, Minn. to Joseph and Barbara (Hoofhower) Solheid.  He grew up in the New Prague area and graduated from New Prague High School in 1943.  He served his country from Jan. 22, 1945 to Sept. 12, 1946 in the U.S. Army as a sergeant.  On May 14, 1949 he married Rosemary Palma in New Prague, Minn.  
    During his working years Eugene worked as a repairman and had a T.V. repair business.  He also worked for Tenant & Hoyt, and Pillsbury Flour Mill in Lake City as a lab technician for many years.  Eugene enjoyed spending time golfing and going fishing.
    Eugene was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City and the Knights of Columbus serving as a 3rd degree knight. He was also a member of the Lake City American Legion Post 110.  
    Eugene is survived by his four sons, Dennis (Sue) Solheid of Lake City, Thomas (Charleen) Solheid of Lakeville, Robert (Kim) Solheid of Lake City and Charles (Margie) Solheid of Lake City; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald (Ardelle) Solheid of New Prague, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, on Sept. 29, 2000, and two brothers.
