Frances Walker Obituary

The funeral service for Frances Walker will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Fr. James Russell officiating.  Burial will be St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City.
    Frances Johanna Walker, 83, of Rochester and formerly of Lake City, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018 at her home in Rochester.  She was born Feb. 20, 1935 in Rochester to Francis and Edna (Malem) Mackey.  Fran grew up in Rochester attended school in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School in 1953.  After high school Fran worked for Mayo Clinic in the pathology department for five years.  On Oct. 19, 1957 she married David Walker in Rochester.
    The Walker’s lived in Rochester and Fran worked at Donaldson’s Department Store as a sales clerk for a short time.  In 1965 the family moved to Colorado and in 1966 they moved to Washington state. The Walker’s moved to Lake City in 1971. While living in Lake City Fran worked at the Lake City Hospital many years, and then at Fiesta Foods for several years.  In July 2014 she moved to Rochester to be closer to her daughters.
    Fran enjoyed crocheting, doing crafts, reading mysteries, watching the Hallmark channel, and Murder She Wrote.  She also enjoyed her flowers and nature. She also traveled around the U.S. and especially enjoyed her trip to New York City.  Fran loved most being a mother to her six children and enjoyed spending as much time with them and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she could.
    Fran is survived by her children, Terri Walker, Connie Walker, Lisa Hyke and Kelly Walker all of Rochester, Lance (Barbara) Walker of Prior Lake, and Brent (Heidi) Walker of Lake City; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, son Jeffrey, brother, Jim Mackey, and sister, Virginia Ellefson.
    Friends and family may visit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
