Gloria Henn Obituary

Gloria Henn, 84, of Lake City, passed away on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at the Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City Hospital, surrounded by her family.  
    She was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Mount Pleasant Township in Wabasha County, to Laroy and Elsa Holst.  She was baptized on Nov. 8, 1931, and confirmed on May 20, 1945, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City.  She attended the Sterrett School, St. John’s Parochial School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City.  She attended Winona Secretarial School in Winona, graduating in 1950.
    On Dec. 9, 1950, she married Dallas R. Henn at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Goodhue.  She joined her husband, who was serving in the Army at Atlanta General Depot in Georgia, Fort Hood in Texas and Fort Lewis in Washington.  She was employed by Doctor Emory in Atlanta and by the Social Service Department of Pierce County Hospital in Tacoma, Wash.  She remained at home to raise their family until she began employment again at the Mayo Clinic as medical secretary to Dr.  G.J. Thompson and Dr. David C. Utz in the Department of Urology in June 1960.  She worked for the latter for 28 1⁄2 years until his retirement in June 1990.  After Dr. Utz retired, she returned to work part-time for Dr. Horst Zincke in the Department of Urology, retiring in May 1994.
    Gloria was a member of Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Lake City. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, serving as president and secretary of the organization.  She served as treasurer and vice president of the Hiawatha Circuit of the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary Society. She also was a member of the Zumbro Falls Firefighters’ Auxiliary, serving as an officer many times; was co-coordinator of the Red Cross Bloodmobile visits for many years; president of the Zumbro Falls PTA and treasurer of the City of Zumbro Falls from 1991 through 2010.
    Dallas and Gloria loved to travel in retirement and traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe.
    She is survived by her husband, Dallas; one daughter, Sandra (John) Richert of La Crosse, Wis., one son, Dale (Marie) of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Trevor (Maile) Richert of Swansboro, N.C., Eric Richert of Minneapolis and Elisabeth Henn of Minneapolis; one great-grandson, Evan Richert; brothers, Norbert Holst of Lake City and Gary (Debra) Holst of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister, Gladys (George) Johnson of Pearland, Texas; sisters-in-law, Lois Grobe of Pine Island, June Henn of Lake City, Elaine Folkert of Rochester and Jean Henn of Lake City; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan; her parents and two brothers, Arleigh and Carl Holst.
    Funeral service was Friday, Feb. 12 at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Reich officiating.  Burial was at the church cemetery.  Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel, Lake City handled arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, Minn., The Ronald McDonald House in Rochester or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
