Harold Smith Obituary

Harold “Pete” Smith Jr., 65, of Lake City died at home peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017.

Born in Rochester, Minn., Jan. 18, 1952, the son of Harold Smith and Lilian (Ready) Smith. He lived his life in the Rochester area settling in Hammond, Minn., and retiring in Lake City with his wife, Dorrene Smith.

Harold enjoyed many things throughout his life including fishing, traveling making it to six different countries. In his later years, he enjoyed and had great pride in his garden and his raspberries, and more than anything his wife, kids, grandbabies and great grandbabies is what brought the most enjoyment.

Harold “Pete” worked all his adult life as a cook, working in fine dining restaurants including Sandy Point in Oronoco where he was the head chef for six years before going to the Olmsted County Jail where he retired from after working there for 20 years.

Pete was preceded in death by his father, Harold Smith, Lillian (Ready) Smith, sister Kay Oeffler, brother, Walt King, granddaughter, Autumn Anderson and Tipper the dog.

He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Dorrene (Harms) Smith; his daughters, Michelle McQuistion (Mike) of Faribault, Jennifer Clanton (Robert) of Kasson, Daphne Schick (James) of Lake City, Jammey Schick of Lake City; his sons, Peter Smith of Rochester, Mark Smith of Kasson, William “Joey” Schick of Winona; 14 grandchildren and 13 great -grandchildren, Tinker Bell and many other family members.

The family is having a visitation Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City from noon to 2 p.m. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at the Oronoco Cemetery in Oronoco, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Oronoco Community Center, 115 2nd Street, Oronoco, Minn., from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
