Helen Sitta Obituary

The funeral service for Helen Sitta will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Fr. Don Schmitz officiating.  Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City.
    Helen Rosemary Sitta was born Dec. 1, 1917 in St. Paul to Albert and Hilda (Longley) Ingram.  She attended school in St. Paul graduating from Harding High School in 1936.  She went on to attend Lees Beauty School in 1939, and worked two years as a beautician until her marriage.  In the 30’s and 40’s she and Vic traveled with the St. Paul Roller Skating Club.  Helen married Victor Sitta on June 26, 1943 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in St. Paul.
    After marriage they lived in Springfield, Mo. while Vic was stationed in the U.S. Army.  In 1944 Vic was transferred to Washington state, where Richard was born in 1945.  After Vic was discharged they moved to Minneapolis where Vic was employed by O’Neil Irwin Company, and when the company moved to Lake City they moved here in 1946, Steven was born in 1947.
    Helen worked for a number of years at the Ben Franklin store in Lake City.  She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, and the church Guild.  She also volunteered for the Red Cross, and the Cancer Drive.  She enjoyed her card clubs, golf, bowling, bingo, shopping, and preparing her famous Sunday dinners for family and friends.
    Helen is survived by her sons, Richard “Dick” (Mary Durst) Sitta and Steven Sitta, Sr., both of Lake City; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
    Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
