James Herzig Obituary

The funeral service for James “Jim” Herzig will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, at First Congregational Church of Christ in Lake City with Pastor David Badgely officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.
    James Allan Herzig, 82, of Rochester, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus in Rochester.  
    He was born June 8, 1936 in Theilman to Herman and Elsie (Sommer) Herzig.  He attended school at Plainview and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City.  On Sept. 28, 1957 he married Marilyn Grage in Rochester. James served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960, stationed in Germany.  Upon his return he was employed by Telex Communications, retiring in 1995. James enjoyed sports, especially football and baseball, and loved to play golf, going hunting, and traveling.  James especially enjoyed his summer fishing trips with family and friends to Hayward, Wis.  He was a member of the Fraternal of Eagles and served as president.  He was an active volunteer for the Eagles Cancer Telethon for many years.
    James is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Herzig of Rochester; sister-in-law, Marge Herzig of Lake City; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph, Carrol and Jack, and sister, Lorraine Anderson.
    Friends and family may visit from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday.
