James Moyer Obituary

James D. Moyer, 78, of Wabasha, formerly of Lake City, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha.  
    He was born Nov. 18, 1936 in Rochester, to Harry and Christine (Nelson) Moyer.  He was a 1954 graduate of Lincoln High School in Lake City.  He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve at the 544th Maintenance Unit in Wabasha from 1957-1963 and was placed into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis serving at Fort Polk, La. from October 1961 to June 1962.  
    Jim worked for the Wabasha County Highway Department and the Farmers Elevator in Lake City for several years and he farmed for many years in Mount Pleasant Township of Wabasha County.  After farming he moved to Wabasha where he worked for Bouquet Enterprises and PMI until retiring because of health issues.  He married Helen Howatt December 28, 1957 and they later divorced.  He married Myrna Winge and they later divorced.
    He enjoyed gardening and woodworking, especially making bird houses for his family and many friends and feeding the birds.
    Jim is survived by children, Gregg Moyer (Pennie Seeger), Lake City, Bonnie (Kent) Roberson, Zumbro Falls, Mark (Val) Moyer, Oak Center, Dan Moyer (Connie Ekblad), Lake City, and Jeff (Tammy) Moyer, Lake City; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ethel Moyer, Frontenac, Doris Moyer and Mary Moyer, both of Lake City; brother-in-law, Roger Brinkman, Lake City; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Christine Moyer, infant daughter, Judy Ann Moyer, and his siblings and their spouses, Duane (Agnes) Moyer, Roscoe (Clara) Moyer, Bernice (Robert) Livingston, Melva (Herbert) Weinrich, Mavis (Alfred) Kettner, Robert  Moyer, Roger (Lucille) Moyer, Herbert (Joanne) Moyer, Miles Moyer, Betty (John) Haack, Dale Moyer, and Nancy Brinkman.
    A memorial service was Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha with the Rev. Dennis Valleau officiating.  Interment was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City.  Honorary bearers were Verlyn Herold, Dean Mock, Lyle Brager, and Byron Wohlers.  Military rites were provided by the Lake City American Legion Post 110, the Lake City VFW Post 8729 and the Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard at the cemetery.
