Janet Leonard obituary

Janet Catherine Leonard, 77, of rural Millville, passed away at her home on Friday, April 16, 2021 after a valiant 5-1⁄2 year struggle with cancer. She was born June 2, 1943 in Red Wing to John and Sarah (Spence) Reiland. Janet attended Sheldon Country School and graduated from Mazeppa High School in 1962. She married Jerome Leonard on July 14, 1962 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa.
    The Leonards lived in the St. Paul area for several years and moved to West Albany in 1981. Janet loved being a homemaker and raising her family. She enjoyed working in the yard and in her garden, baking apple pies, and feeding the hummingbirds. Her passion was her collectible shoe display, of many figurines and shoes. Janet was a very dedicated wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, and sister. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in West Albany.
    Janet is survived by her loving husband of 58+ years, Jerome “Jerry” Leonard of Millville; a son, Jeff (Annette) Leonard of Zumbro Falls; daughters, Jane (Mick) Adler and Jean (Bill) Krusmark both of Millville, and Janell (Dirk) Oelkers of Zumbro Falls; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Staub Vandeweerd, and her twin sister, Jane (Ralph) Burdick, both of Mazeppa. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William (Bill), a grandson, Joshua, and a granddaughter, Demitria.
    A walk-through visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 21 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
    The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in West Albany, rural Millville with Father Matthew Fasnacht officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

    Masks and social distancing are required at all services.
