Jon Steffenhagen obituary

Jon Albert Steffenhagen (Steff) passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 19, 2025 due to complications from surgery.
He was born on June 16, 1945 to Reynold and Lauda Steffenhagen. He was raised on a small dairy farm in rural Lake City. He graduated from Lincoln High School in June 1963. He then joined the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was stationed first at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and then stationed at Glasgow Air Force base in Glasgow, Mont.  
There he met the love of his life, Virginia Brandt. They were married Jan. 6, 1968.  They moved back to his hometown of Lake City and that is where they spent their 57 years together.
Their union was blessed with three children, Elizabeth Bettich (Hastings), Matthew and Jackie Steffenhagen (Inver Grove Heights), and Jenifer and Eric Marcellus (Lake City). Their children blessed them with 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Steff worked for the United States Postal Service for 31 years. He retired early and went to work building their dream home on 15 acres of wooded land. This was his heaven on earth!
He was a devoted Christian man who knew his Bible better than most and was never shy about his love for God and was always sharing his strong Christian faith.  There is no doubt he is in Jesus’ loving arms now.
He loved music and could pick up any instrument and play it. He played his guitar often and his children grew up listening to him sing and play.  He was a member of a few different bands in his life and loved playing with his friends, even if it was just a few of them sitting around his living room picking and singing.
In the summer you could find him at the Lake Pepin Golf Course. He loved golfing and his golfing family. He is reunited with his favorite golfing buddies, Dick Herbst and Denny Landers. We are sure they are causing trouble on the course in heaven and making everyone laugh.
He is deeply loved and missed by his wife Virginia (Ginny); his three children, Elizabeth (Jim Wintheiser), Matthew (Jackie), and Jenifer (Eric). His 13 grandchildren, Erich (Megan) Bettich, Steffen (Aimee) Bettich, Lynden (Aaron) Schiller, Alexander (Kathryn) Bettich, Graci and  Ella Bettich, William, Madeline, Jacob and Isabella Steffenhagen, Alex and Katie, Jackson and Sawyer Marcellus. His seven great-grandchildren, Stella and Bailey Schiller, Thomas and Cole Bettich, Dax and Brody Bettich and James Bettich. Also his sister Lynn (Bob) Antione and his brother Ron (MaryJo) Steffenhagen. Sister-in-laws, Dixie Shepard, Karen Brandt, and Judy Steffenhagen, brothers-in-law, Don Brandt, Dean (Aileen) Brandt, and Tim (Pam) Brandt. And numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his father and mother-in-law, Ivan and Elizabeth Brandt, brothers-in-law Ronald Brandt and Michael Brandt, sister-in-law Nancy Brandt.
A small family memorial is planned for the spring.
