Josephine Konkel Obituary

Josephine Mary Konkel, 100, of Lake City, previously of Minneiska, Minn., passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City Care Center, with family at her side.
    Josephine “Jo” was born May 16, 1918, to Peter and Elizabeth Leisen Giem in the area of Kellogg, Minn.  On Jan. 25, 1938, she married Gerald Paine and they had two daughters, Janice and Virginia. Gerald passed way on March 16, 1958 at the age of 39 and Jo raised their girls.  She then married Albin “Jake” Konkel on Feb. 19, 1977 and he preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1997.  
    While Jo was busy raising her daughters, she had a hair salon in her home, as well as working at St. Ann’s in Winona as a hair dresser.  She lived most of her married life in Minneiska and spent her last several years in Lake City.  Her priorities were her faith and her family.  She also enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for the elderly and her whole family.  In her younger years, she loved to fish, garden, and can.  She was a sacristan for many years at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska.
    She is survived by her daughter, Ginger Marien of Lake City and gained four children with the marriage to Jake Konkel, Bob, Jerry, Tom, and Barb. She has a total of 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands,  Gerald and Jake; a daughter, Janice Steffen; grandson, Todd Balow; and siblings, Joseph, Larry, Leo, Margaret, Beatrice, and Mary.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, with Fr. James Russell officiating.  Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Minneiska.  Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
    Services entrusted to Abbott Funeral Home and Crematory of Wabasha.  Memorials or remembrances may be left at www.abbottfh.com.
