Joyce Burke Obituary

Joyce Margaret Burke, 69, of Lake City, died courageously and peacefully on April 30, 2019 at home surrounded by her family.  
    She was born Feb. 9, 1950 to Arnold and Margaret Pruter. She grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968.  She was a wonderful mother, raising two daughters; Michelle and Jennifer Heimer. Over the years, she worked at Pioneer United Telephone Systems, Red Wing Chiropractic, American Bank, Bill’s Bay Marina and Pepin Valley Dental.  Joyce was the pleasant voice and welcoming smile who greeted so many. On Aug. 15, 2015 she married the love of her life and soulmate, Joseph Burke. She was a member of United Lutheran Church.
    She will be remembered for touching those she met, her cooking, baking and reading of cookbooks, her tireless work ethic, her class and grace, her witty one-liners, her contagious smile, her selfless spirit, her frugality, her attention to detail, her love of gardening, walking and biking with Joe, her kindness to everyone around her, and her fierce and endless love of her family.  She was loved and admired by many.
    She is survived by husband, Joe; daughters Michelle (Nick) and Jennifer (Ron); grandchildren, Cort, Braeden, Alec, Greyson, Grace and Avalon; brother, Eugene (Luena) Pruter; and sister-in-law, Mary O'Brien.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Margaret Pruter and brothers, Ralph and John Pruter.
    Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 10,  at the United Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Rev. Justin Boeding officiating. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 9 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson- Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials preferred to United Lutheran Church or charity of your choice.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
