Karl Kehren Obituary

Karl William Kehren, 72, of Welch, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.  
    He was born March 13, 1944, in Lake City, to William and Hazel (VonHelmst) Kehren and graduated from high school there in 1962. He then attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1967.  For 37 years, he was employed with NSP as a construction superintendent.  Following his retirement, he worked at Foth Engineering in Lake Elmo for several years.  He married Peggy Wold and they later divorced.  On June 13, 1992, he was united in marriage to Jean Reynolds at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, where he was a member.  He also belonged to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and he enjoyed working, hunting, cutting wood and going to family get-togethers.  In the neighborhood, Karl was known as the “go-to guy” whenever something needed to be fixed.
    He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Vanessa Kehren of Brooklyn, N.Y.; step-children, Julie (Mike) Bethke of Augusta, Wis., Dona Sprague of Osseo, Wis., Joe (Christine) Randall of Portales, N.M., Daniel Reynolds of Denver, Colo. and Douglas (Pam) Reynolds of Northfield; 10 step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Joyce (John) Moechnig, Larry (Kyle) Kehren, Orie (Ruth) Kehren, Audry (John) Plote, Tom (Linda) Kehren, Gail (Larry) Schmit and Doris Ryan, all of Lake City; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Harold Moechnig.
    Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Berthold officiating.  Burial will be at the church cemetery.  Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
