Katherine Marking Obituary

Katherine “Kate” Josephine Marking, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 in Lake City.
    Kate was born on May 2, 1932 to the late Mary Eversman in Wabasha, where she was raised throughout her childhood and attended school. On Sept. 29, 1949 she was united in marriage with Lavern J. Marking at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. Kate and Lavern raised their eight children on the family farm near Theilman. In 1986, they retired to Lake City.
    Kate cherished her days on the family farm with her husband. Throughout her life, her passions for cooking and reading were evident. In her early years she and Lavern enjoyed socializing and dancing with friends. In her later years, she enjoyed car rides with her sons, lunches with her daughters, and treasured visits from her grandkids.
    Kate is survived by her children, John (Dinah) Marking of Lake City, Joanne (Denny) Wohlferd of St. Charles, Marlene (Louie) Boehmke of Rushford, Elaine (Dan) Meincke of Lake City, Roger “Fud” (Deb Schlegel) Marking  of Lake City, Gerard “King” (Rhonda) Marking of Lake City, Eileen (Kent) Christensen of Houston, and Brian (Sheryl) Marking of Lake City; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to her mother, Kate was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lavern J. Marking; and infant son, Robert.
    A private family service will be held at a later date.
