Lawrence Sexton Obituary

The funeral for Lawrence Sexton will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – West Albany in rural Millville, with Fr. Donald Schmitz officiating.  Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.
    Lawrence Edmund Sexton, 89, of rural Millville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview.  He was born Feb. 27, 1929 in Millville to Edmund and Agnes (Laqua) Sexton, and raised on a farm outside of Millville.  He attended country school and Plainview High School. Lawrence married Dorothy Schmidt on Oct. 5, 1950 in Lake City.  He was a devoted, loyal husband for 59 years, and she preceded him in death in August 2009.
    Lawrence was a dairy farmer all of his life, from helping on his family’s farm as a boy to owning and operating a 280 acre dairy farm near Millville for 70 years.  Through his lifetime he enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to dances, and playing cards.  Everyone knew Lawrence for his quick wit and sense of humor.
    Lawrence was an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Albany, where his parents and grandparents, who immigrated from Ireland, helped build the St. Patrick’s church in 1875.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Lawrence received the honor of the Bishop’s Medal in 2012 for 40 years of faithful service on the St. Patrick’s Cemetery Board.  He served on the Millville School Board and the DHIA Board.
    Lawrence is survived by his children, James (Julia Swanson) Sexton of Eau Claire, Michael (Debbie) Sexton of Elgin, Janet (Steve) Madeyski of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Marilyn (Kevin) Powers of Dallas, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, and one more coming in two weeks; three sisters, Irene Tritchler of Minneapolis, Delores Books of Lund, Wis. and Rita Marcella (Tony) Wallerich of Lake City; and two sisters-in-law, Lucy Sexton of Lake City and Sharon Dick of Kellogg. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, three brothers, Richard, Patrick and Robert, and three sisters, Frances Dick, Rose Franke and Mildred Dick.
    Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – West Albany, rural Millville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
