Loraine Augustine Obituary

Loraine R. Augustine, 90 of River Falls, Wis., and formerly of rural Lake City and San Diego Calif., died on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at the River Falls Area Hospital.  
    Loraine was born to Reinhold and Edna (Albers) Schulz on Oct. 29, 1925 in Pine Island. Loraine graduated from Goodhue High School with the class of 1943. She attended two years of business college in Chicago. Loraine was married to Charles Augustine on Oct. 3, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  Loraine and Charles bought a farm near Lake City in 1949.  Their farm Hi-Land Acres was nationally recognized for their prize winning beef cattle. They retired in 1977 and moved to San Diego; then moving back to Minnesota in 1996.  Loraine enjoyed raising and showing her prize winning flowers. She was commissioned as a certified international flower judge; elected the first female president of the Minnesota Horticultural Society; a skilled artist and painter, having created beautiful drawings and Ukrainian eggs. Loraine was an excellent cook and baker; her talents extending to creating numerous wedding cake designs. Playing her piano was an interest that she enjoyed in her spare time. Loraine was always active in her church serving and heading many committees over the years.  She was a strong, caring person with a magnetic personality.
    Loraine is survived by her children, Gary (Millie) Augustine and Colette (Jerry) Carlson; grandchildren, Marc (Candice) Augustine, Jason (Tracy) Augustine, Paige Augustine, Dawn Carlson, Shelley (Anders) Berg, Brandy Stewart, and Tristan Kjeseth; many great-grandchildren; sister Marla Tupper; and many other relatives and friends. Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, Reinhold and Edna Schulz; siblings, Bill Schulz, Elroy Schulz and Fritz Schulz.    
    A memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 9, 11 a.m. at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home 805 E Division Street in River Falls.  Memorial visitation will also be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
